According to Jon Rothstein of CBS Sports, former Kansas State junior transfer forward Arthur Kaluma has committed to the Texas basketball team as of June 27. Kaluma chose Texas over the SMU Mustangs and Memphis Tigers.
Arthur Kaluma’s commitment finalizes the 2024-25 roster for Texas, taking up the 13th and last scholarship slot for head coach Rodney Terry as they enter their first season in the SEC. Kaluma was the top remaining transfer in this portal cycle, rated as the 13th best transfer small forward by the 247Sports Composite.
Texas’s 2024-25 rotation, now heavily reliant on transfers, includes six new players from the portal: Kaluma, Jordan Pope from Oregon State, Malik Presley from Vanderbilt, Tramon Mark from Arkansas, Julian Larry from Indiana State, and Jayson Kent from Indiana State.
Kaluma has a prior connection with Jordan Pope from their high school basketball days.
Kaluma’s decision came after his official visit to Austin on June 24-25. He praised the campus, the program, and the city of Austin, noting its appeal despite having lived in Dallas without visiting Austin before.
This marks Kaluma’s second entry into the transfer portal in two offseasons. He spent his first two college years at Creighton in the Big East, where he was recognized on the Big East All-Freshman Team and All-Big East Tournament team in 2022.
Kaluma played a pivotal role in Creighton’s 2023 Elite Eight run, averaging around 12 points and six rebounds per game across 37 starts.
Before the 2023-24 season, Kaluma transferred to Kansas State to play in the Big 12. He achieved career-best averages with nearly 15 points, seven rebounds, and two assists per game, earning All-Big 12 Honorable Mention.
Kaluma’s addition enhances Texas’s frontcourt with his experience and versatility. The 6-foot-7, 225-pound forward from Dream City Christian High School in Glendale, AZ, brings much-needed depth and two-way capability. Recent additions have strengthened Texas’s frontcourt for the 2024-25 season, including high school recruit Jamie Vinson and transfers like Jayson Kent.
The Texas frontcourt for 2024-25 now includes Shedrick, senior power forward Ze’Rik Onyema, sophomore Devon Pryor, and the newly added Kent.
