Tyler Lockhart, a highly regarded 4-star linebacker from Mississippi, has decided to reconsider his college choice and has withdrawn his commitment from Auburn University.
In a statement posted on X (formerly Twitter) on Friday afternoon, Lockhart announced, “After discussing with my family, I have chosen to reopen my recruitment and de-commit from Auburn University.”
Lockhart had initially committed to Auburn on May 6th. His decision to reopen his recruitment follows an official visit to Mississippi State, the first program to offer him a scholarship back in September 2023.
Ranked as the 17th best linebacker in the 2025 class and the 4th top prospect in Mississippi by 247Sports, Lockhart has received 15 other offers since his first offer from Mississippi State, including from Alabama, Georgia, LSU, Ole Miss, and Tennessee.
With Lockhart withdrawing his commitment, Auburn has lost two commitments this week, including 4-star offensive lineman Carde Smith who decommitted on Wednesday.
Despite these losses, Auburn’s 2025 recruiting class remains strong, currently ranked eighth by 247Sports with 15 commits.
