Benfica is probably going to want more money to sell Antonio Silva, and Newcastle United is thinking about making an offer of €50 million for the defender.
Jornal de Noticias via Sport Witness claims that Newcastle United is prepared to pay €50 million to acquire Antonio Silva. Although Benfica has a €100 million release clause protecting them, the Magpies are keen to complete the transaction quickly, even though they may wind up requesting additional money from the Premier League’s biggest clubs.

Antonio Silva to make a bid with Newcastle United?
Newcastle United has a serious defensive crisis, so they are keen to add new defenders during this transfer window. They are now short at the back due to the serious injuries to Sven Botman and Jamal Lascelles, which has already prompted Eddie Howe to reconsider the team’s summer goals.

They may have added Antonio Silva to Newcastle’s defense shortlist, which already includes a lot of names. According to reports, the Magpies are prepared to give €50 million, of which €35 million would come in fixed payments and the remaining amount in add-ons. Almost half of his €100 million release clause is covered by this.

Newcastle is keen to advance in this pursuit because they think Silva is looking for a bigger challenge than Benfica. To approve a trade, the Portuguese team will probably demand more money, which would cause the Magpies to second-guess their decision.

Top teams are showing a lot of interest in Silva, but none have made a formal inquiry as of yet. Given that Eddie Howe is determined to bring in a top-tier right-footed defender, this does provide Newcastle United some hope that they can work out a decent enough deal with Benfica.

Newcastle United is looking for a defender with right foot.
Given the players Newcastle has so far chased, many have questioned whether they plan to replace Fabian Schar right away. In fact, Silva’s interest and their pursuit of Max Kilman—having already had a bid turned down by Wolves—point to it.

The Magpies are eager to contend for a top-four spot in the upcoming season, so they need to solidify their position. They have similar offers for the defenders, therefore they will only sign one of Kilman or Silva.
