Marquez Valdes-Scantling, who spent the last two seasons assisting the Chiefs in filling Tyreek Hill’s role, will now be doing a similar job in Buffalo, where he’ll help the Bills fill the void left by Stefon Diggs.
“I faced a similar situation when I joined Kansas City after Tyreek Hill’s departure,” Valdes-Scantling mentioned to Colin Cowherd on Thursday. “I just focus on being myself. Whatever version of myself is needed to help the team succeed, that’s what I bring. I don’t aim to replace anyone specifically. It’s about being myself and contributing my best, not about emulating those who came before or will come after me.”
The Bills made significant changes to their receiving group this offseason, trading Diggs to the Texans and losing Gabe Davis to free agency. Together, Diggs and Davis had accumulated 152 catches for 1,929 yards and 15 touchdowns for Buffalo last season.
To reshape their lineup, the Bills signed Valdes-Scantling, Curtis Samuel, Mack Hollins, and Chase Claypool, and selected Keon Campbell with the 33rd overall pick in the draft.
In the previous season, Valdes-Scantling recorded 21 catches for 315 yards and a touchdown for the Chiefs and scored another touchdown in Super Bowl LVIII. His career-best was in 2022, with 42 receptions for 687 yards.
